Timelapse Unit FAQs

How do I request a timelapse video?

To produce a timelapse video, please contact comms@hutchies.com.au with a minimum of 7 days notice.

Timelapse videos can take a little while to produce as the image files are quite large. These videos are produced in-house at no cost to your job.

Fees may apply if you use a third-party or one of our install partners (which you are also welcome to do if you prefer). Sometimes they can turn them around quicker.

The camera has stopped working. How do I troubleshoot?

If your camera suddenly stops working it could be for several reasons.

Check the below and email the Comms Team who will have a further look into the issue and come back to you with a solution.

-   All components of the camera and solar panel are still there

-   Is the solar loom / cable still in its original condition? There has been a batch with faulty solar looms

-   The solar panel is facing the sun and not in the shade for most of the day

The project is complete and there is no new job for the camera at this stage

Once your project is complete and you are ready to move the camera to your next job, it is important that you please get in contact with comms@hutchies.com.au.

There are several things that need to be changed behind the scenes to ensure the monthly costs are transferred and that the images don't get muddled up with the previous job.

How do I open the back of the timelapse unit?

To open the back of the unit you’ll need special tamper-resistant star Torx T25 and T40. These tools come with the units. If they have been lost the Comms Team can order them from our supplier Infinity for $20 + postage.

Alternatively, you may be able to purchase the tools from hardware stores, although they can be hard to come across.

How do I view the photos on the online dashboard?

Once your timelapse system is installed, you will be sent a username and password to access your camera via the web dashboard.

The Infinity Online Dashboard allows you to access the current images and go back to view previous photos. It also features a variety of other functions including comparing pictures and creating a quick unedited timelapse video to be viewed but not downloaded.

If you have not received your login details please get in touch with comms@hutchies.com.au.

The pictures are blurry / focussing the camera

If the images are not in focus please watch the video below on how to focus the camera. Blurry images will result in a poor quality final video

A component of the timelapse unit is broken

Although the timelapse units are highly durable, they can break over time. If there is an issue with the unit, please take detailed photos of the issue and send them with any information to comms@hutchies.com.au. The Comms Team will be able to help identify the error, order replacement parts and in some cases repair the camera for you.

Please note there is a known issue with solar looms / cables breaking on a batch of the units. If this happens, we can arrange a new cable free of charge and help swap the cables over or offer instructions.

Why am I being charged monthly?

The timelapse unit itself is a once of fee, however it does cost to keep the camera running. These monthly fees are only charged whilst the camera is in use, as they cover the dashboard and the cost of data. It is important to make sure you notify the Comms Team on completion of the project to stop the charges.

The portal costs can be invoiced monthly or through a lump sum (e.g. the entire length of the project) to save time on processing invoices. The sim is direct debited through IT each month from your job number / cost code.

  • $50 per month Infinity portal
  • $20 per month 4G sim card

Someone stole the timelapse unit or solar panel

Please contact the Comms Team to arrange for replacement items from our supplier.

What are the correct settings for the camera to work?

It’s important that all the correct settings are in order for the camera to work. Without it, the camera will either not take photos or if it is taking photos they will be under / overexposed and will affect the final video. These switches are easily knocked during travel making it important to check them before installation.

Watch the below video to see all the settings otherwise, they are listed below

-     Lens set to MF (manual focus)

-     Camera dial set to A / Av (aperture priority)

-     Camera turned On

-     Black box within the timelpase unit is switched to RUN

Where do the cables go?

It's important that all cables are correctly plugged in. These are easily knocked during travel. Please watch the video for the right connections.

How do I install the timelapse unit myself?

There are numerous ways to install the camera depending on the location of your site. We encourage our site teams to get creative to find solutions to install the camera in a well-positioned and safe spot. Below are some examples of what teams across Hutchies have come up with.

The Comms Team is happy to be a part of the installation to ensure everything runs smoothly. Otherwise the below video explains how to operate and focus the camera.

Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Expansion, Bundaberg QLD

Task / Install three cameras on a large flat site with no neighbouring buildings
Solution / Team Diamond filled large drums with concrete and installed a pole on top to hold the timelapse unit. These are able to be forklifted to different locations around the site as the project advances.

Task / Install the timelapse unit on a rooftop ensuring the site is in full view and in focus
Solution / Southport communicated with a neighbouring building to get permission to install the timelapse on their roof. The site team designed the set-up and was assisted by the Comms Team to help get the correct angles during installation.

New School at Ripley, Ripley QLD

Task / Install four timelapses on four polls around the large site
Solution / Order a 75 square 6 metre long steel post. This project got theirs from B&D fencing, so we'd suggest any local fencer or metal fab supplier will be able to help with the supply and delivery. Then set aside a labourer or an excavator to dig out a footing deep and wide enough for your post to sit in. Potentially with reinforcing in there, wouldn’t think so. These posts are quite heavy so the team may have rigged this up with the telehandler and set it down into the footing. Then fill the hole with concrete and have someone on a scissor lift holding the post steady if needed. Once the concrete sets then use a scissor lift to help mount the camera.
